Welcome
to Ohio State Clothing
The intercollegiate sports teams of Ohio State
University are known as the "Buckeyes". They are so-called due to the
Buckeye which is the state tree. The Ohio State teams participate in the NCAA's Division I in all sports
apart from football. For the game of football they are placed in Division I-A Football Bowl Subdivision.
The intercollegiate
sports
teams operate in the Big Ten Conference for the majority of their sports. The
male hockey program plays in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and the
female hockey program plays in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Ohio State University colors are scarlet and gray
and
were decided upon by a committee of three students who were Curtis C. Howard, Harwood
R. Pool, and Alice Townshend. This happened prior to the school's first graduation ceremony in
eighteen-seventy-eight. The trio's initial recommendation was for orange and black but
when they found that Princeton had already claimed these colors,
the good people of the committee changed
their recommendation to scarlet and gray.
During the 2005
and 2006 academic year Ohio State University
became the first school in the Big Ten to be the conference champions in
football, men's basketball, and women's basketball. They managed this again during the
2006 and 2007 academic year on February 25th, 2007 when the men's basketball team
beat Wisconsin in the Big Ten's first 1 versus 2 basketball game. The
Ohio State University mascot is that of Brutus
Buckeye.
